Los Cabos Itinerary

Start before the cruise ships arrive. Water taxis depart from Médano Beach from around 7 AM — the 10-minute ride deposits you at Lover's Beach on the Sea of Cortez side, with the arch framing the view behind you. Divorce Beach on the Pacific side is dramatic but not swimmable. Budget 90 minutes at Land's End.

Back on shore, claim a spot on Médano Beach — Cabo's only swimmable beach. SUR Beach House and The Office on the Beach are both solid for lunch with your feet in the sand. Agua Mala, directly on the water, is the quieter option. The afternoon is for the water: kayaks, paddleboards, and parasailing are all available directly on the beach.

Walk the marina boardwalk as the sportfishing fleet returns and the pelicans take over the weigh-in dock — a daily free spectacle. Dinner at El Farallón at the Waldorf Astoria Pedregal is the most dramatic in all of Cabo: cliff-edge tables, live seafood tanks built into the rock face, and a wine list to match. Book weeks in advance.

Charters depart from the sportfishing docks at the marina between 6–7 AM. Half-day charters (4 hours) target dorado and tuna year-round; full-day charters (8 hours) reach the marlin grounds. The Pisces fleet and Cabo Adventures are both highly regarded. If it's December through April, swap this for a gray whale watching tour — the humpbacks and grays come within 50 feet of the boats.

After an early start on the water, afternoon is for the pool. The Grand Velas and Waldorf Pedregal have the most impressive pool setups in the corridor — the Pedregal's cliff-edge infinity pool is the benchmark. If you're staying at a marina hotel, the Médano beach clubs fill the same purpose.

Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas comes alive after 9 PM. El Squid Roe and Mandala are the highest-energy options — think table dancing, confetti cannons, and crowds until 4 AM. Cabo Wabo Cantina (founded by Sammy Hagar) runs live bands most nights and draws a more music-forward crowd. Rooftop 360 above it all is the place for a drink with a view before committing to a venue.

The 20-mile Tourist Corridor connecting Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo is lined with some of the most impressive resort architecture in Mexico. Stop at Chileno Bay — a protected marine preserve with calm turquoise water and excellent snorkeling. No rental chairs, no vendors, no charge. Bring your own gear or rent from the parking area.

San José del Cabo's historic centro is a 20-minute walk from end to end. The Art District runs along Calle Obregón and the surrounding blocks — more than 20 galleries in renovated colonial buildings. The main plaza and the Iglesia San José anchor the center. On Thursday evenings October through June, the Art Walk runs 5–9 PM with open galleries, music, and street food.

Flora Farms — 3 miles outside San José on a working organic farm — is the definitive farm-to-table experience in Baja: outdoor tables, wood-fire cooking, ingredients harvested that morning. Don Manuel's at the Waldorf (back in Cabo) runs a legendary nine-course taco journey for a completely different but equally memorable evening. Both require advance reservations.

Leave Cabo by 6:30 AM to reach La Paz by 8:30 and board your whale shark tour by 9. From October through April, whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) congregate in La Paz Bay — the largest fish on earth, docile filter-feeders that allow snorkelers within arm's reach. Baja Outdoor Activities (BOA) and Fun Baja run the most reputable tours. This is one of the top wildlife encounters available anywhere in North America.

Isla Espíritu Santo is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve 30 minutes by panga from La Paz marina. California sea lions haul out on the rocky southern shore in colonies of 500+. Guided kayaking tours paddle the island's sea-caves and coves. Alternatively, the La Paz Malecón is one of the finest waterfront promenades in all of Mexico — a 5 km seafront boulevard for a slow afternoon walk.

The drive back on Mexico Highway 1 takes 2 hours. If you timed it right, you'll roll back into Cabo as the marina lights up. A low-key dinner at Captain Tony's or La Galería on the marina boardwalk is the right call after a long day.

Cerritos Beach is 45 minutes north of Cabo on Mexico Highway 19 — a long Pacific crescent with consistent beach break and almost no crowds. It's the best beginner surf break on the peninsula: board rental and lessons run $40–$60. Non-surfers: the beach is spacious, uncrowded, and one of the most cinematically beautiful on the Baja coast. Arrive by 8 AM before the afternoon onshore wind picks up.

10 minutes from Cerritos, Todos Santos is a Pueblo Mágico (federal 'magical town' designation) with 8,000 residents and an outsized cultural footprint. The Hotel California — rumored inspiration for the Eagles song — anchors the main street and is worth the photo. The surrounding blocks hold working artist studios, mezcal bars, and the best tacos in Baja at a string of casual spots on the main plaza. The boutique hotel scene here is exceptional if you ever want to overnight.

Back in Cabo by late afternoon. Sunset Mona Lisa on the Tourist Corridor is the most dramatic sunset dining in the region: a cliffside terrace facing directly west, with the arch visible in the distance. Edith's in Cabo San Lucas is the local favorite for a quieter, intimate dinner — tableside guacamole, great wine list, loyal repeat clientele.

Day 6 is the day for a serious fishing charter if you haven't been yet — a full 8-hour trip aboard a private yacht targeting marlin, wahoo, or yellowfin tuna on the Pacific side. The Picante fleet and Reel Quest are among the most consistently reviewed operations out of the Cabo marina. Fish are cleaned, filleted, and can be prepared for dinner at several local restaurants.

Santa María Bay, midway along the Tourist Corridor, is a protected double-cove with the clearest snorkeling water in the immediate Los Cabos area. Sergeant major fish, parrotfish, and the occasional sea turtle. Unlike Chileno Bay, Santa María is more secluded — fewer visitors, quieter water. Best accessed by rented kayak or snorkel tour from Cabo Adventures.

A sunset catamaran cruise from the marina (1.5–2 hours, open bar, snacks) is the most social experience on the water — and the sunset from out in the bay looking back at Land's End is the best view in Cabo. Then: Don Manuel's at the Waldorf Astoria Pedregal for dinner. The nine-course taco tasting menu is unlike anything else in Mexico — each course paired with mezcal, wine, or regional spirits.

Day 7 is yours. The Waldorf Astoria Pedregal Spa and the Grand Velas Spa are the top resort spa options in the corridor — book the morning treatment package. For golfers: Palmilla Golf Club (San José) and Cabo del Sol Ocean Course are the two most prestigious rounds in Los Cabos, both with Sea of Cortez views on every hole. Tee times book out weeks ahead in peak season.

Puerto Paraíso mall on the marina has the widest selection of Mexican silver, Talavera pottery, and upscale souvenirs in Cabo. The marina boardwalk vendors are fine for small gifts. For genuine Baja craft, the market in San José del Cabo (Saturday morning, downtown) is the better source if you're willing to make the drive one last time.

If you're flying out in the evening, keep it simple — Mama's Royal Cafe for the best breakfast in Cabo, or a final lunch on Médano Beach. For a proper farewell dinner, Edith's is the neighborhood institution: unhurried, locally loved, and reasonably priced by Los Cabos standards. SJD is 35–45 minutes from Cabo — leave extra time and never cut it close.
