Pacific current warning — read before you swim
The beaches closest to El Arco (Lover's Beach, Divorce Beach, Playa Solmar) face the open Pacific with strong rip currents and unpredictable surf. These are photo beaches, not swim beaches. Safe swimming in Cabo: Médano Beach (marina), Chileno Bay, Santa María Bay, and Palmilla Beach (all on the Sea of Cortez or Corridor side). Always check the flag system — red flag means no swimming.
Chileno Bay

The best beach in Los Cabos, full stop. A protected marine reserve in a naturally sheltered cove — calm, clear water with excellent visibility and one of the most diverse marine ecosystems on the Corridor. Rays glide along the sandy bottom, sea turtles cruise past, and schools of tropical fish move through the rocks. No beach clubs, no vendors — just the water and the reef. Free public access on the highway side.
Médano Beach

The social heart of Cabo San Lucas — the only swimmable beach within walking distance of the marina. Médano is wide, calm (Sea of Cortez side), and lined with beach clubs, jet ski rentals, parasailing launches, and vendors. The Office restaurant sits right on the sand. It's loud, busy, and exactly what most people picture when they imagine Cabo. If you want the full Cabo energy, this is it.
Santa María Bay

Santa María is quieter than Chileno and slightly harder to reach — which means it's less crowded and feels more discovered. The crescent-shaped cove is protected on both sides by rock formations that block swells and create remarkably clear, calm water. Snorkeling is excellent along the rock walls on both ends of the bay. One of the few places in Los Cabos where you can reliably see large sea turtles from shore.
Lover's Beach

The most photographed beach in Cabo — a small sandy cove directly beneath the El Arco rock formation, accessible only by boat. The water on the Sea of Cortez (Lover's Beach) side is calm enough for wading. The Pacific side — Divorce Beach — has strong surf and rip currents and should not be entered. Sunrise water taxi tours give you the beach to yourself before the crowds arrive. This is a beach for the photo; Médano or Chileno are where you swim.

Costa Azul

Costa Azul is the surf beach closest to San José del Cabo — home to Zippers, one of the most consistent reef breaks in Los Cabos. For non-surfers, the north end of Costa Azul near the hotels has calmer water and is swimmable. It's much quieter than Médano and attracts a more local crowd. Good for a morning walk, sunrise, or a surf lesson if you're staying in San José.
Palmilla Beach
