What to buy, where to find it, and how to bargain
Silver jewelry — ask for .925
Sterling silver (marked .925) from Taxco craftsmen is some of the best value in Los Cabos markets. Ask for the stamp. Avoid plated pieces sold as solid silver.
Tequila & mezcal — buy at the source
Los Cabos has excellent tequila and mezcal shops with bottles you won't find at home. Bring space in your luggage — prices are significantly lower than in the US.
Bargaining is expected at markets
At open-air markets, stalls, and street vendors, negotiating is normal. At mall boutiques and established galleries, prices are fixed. Read the room.
Art — buy what you love
San José del Cabo has a legitimate gallery scene. Original Mexican art is priced fairly and ships internationally. The Thursday Art Walk (Nov–June) is the best time to meet artists.
