Tequila's Sunrise
The Restaurant
Giant margaritas, family recipes, and a table
across from Hotel California.
Tequila's Sunrise Bar & Grill has been a fixture of Todos Santos' historic downtown for decades. Situated directly across the street from the famous Hotel California, it occupies a prime piece of real estate in the town's most-walked block — and it has earned its place there through consistently good food, generous pours, and the kind of warm, unpretentious service that comes from a family that genuinely loves what it does.
The menu is traditional Mexican — chile rellenos, mole enchiladas, fresh ceviche — executed with care and without shortcuts. The drinks are legendary, particularly the house Margarita Damiana made with the flowering Baja herb that grows in the desert hills surrounding town. The outdoor tables fill up fast; the indoor room is casual and comfortable. Bring cash. Come hungry. Arrive before the outdoor seats are gone.

The Menu
Damiana margaritas & kitchen classics — what to order
Margarita Damiana — The House Legend
The drink that made Tequila's Sunrise famous: a giant, potent margarita made with Damiana, a flowering herb native to Baja California that grows wild in the desert hills around Todos Santos. Sweet, herbal, and stronger than it looks — order one before you commit to two.
Fresh Fish Ceviche
The Pacific catch comes in fresh and the ceviche shows it — bright, citrus-forward, and made in the traditional style. One of the consistently praised dishes across hundreds of reviews and the right way to open a meal here.
Shrimp-Stuffed Chile Relleno
The signature dish: a roasted poblano pepper stuffed with seasoned local shrimp, battered and fried, then sauced. The combination of smoky chile, sweet shrimp, and the creamy sauce has kept this at the top of the menu for years.
Mole Chicken Enchiladas
Traditional mole chicken enchiladas made with a rich, multi-ingredient mole that speaks to the kitchen's roots in Mexican culinary tradition. Not a shortcut sauce — this is the kind of mole that takes time and family knowledge to build.
Giant Margaritas — House Style
Beyond the Damiana, the house margaritas are known for their size and strength. Generous pours, fresh lime, and a no-fuss approach that prioritizes flavor over garnish. They are a significant part of what keeps people coming back.
Outdoor Tables — Prime People-Watching
The few outdoor tables facing the main drag are the most sought-after seats in Todos Santos on a busy evening. Positioned directly across from Hotel California, they offer a front-row view of the town's foot traffic and the easy street energy that defines the town.
Before You Go
Cash, outdoor tables & the Damiana you'll want to pace yourself on
The most important thing to know before you go: cash only, no exceptions. ATMs in Todos Santos can run dry on busy weekends, so pull money before you head into town. The outdoor tables are the prime seats — a handful of them face the street and Hotel California, making them the best people-watching in town. They fill quickly in the evening; arriving by 6pm usually secures one.
The Margarita Damiana is potent and poured generously. The herb it's made from — Damiana, or Turnera diffusa — has been used in traditional Baja medicine and has a naturally sweet, slightly herbal flavor that rounds out the tequila base. It pairs well with the chile relleno. Order carefully.
